Saturday, September 09, 2006 10:25 PM I'd made a survey, examinations are a waste of time, money, brain cells and most importantly, papers and ink! You know how many pieces of papers we'd used on solely on ONE exam? Average pieces of paper used are 8 pieces for each subject per primary school student. For primary schools, there are like 121 government primary schools, 46 government-aided primary schools, 1 independent primary schools. Each school will have 6 levels, with average 10 classes with roughly 35 students and each level takes 4 subjects, with 4 major exams each year. 8papers x 4 subs x 35stdts x 10 classes x 6 lvls x 168 schs x 4 exams = 45,158,400 pieces of A4 size papers. Average pieces of paper used are 12 pieces for each subject per secondary school student. For secondary schools, there are like 127 government secondary schools, 31 government-aided secondary schools, 10 independent secondary schools. Each school will have 4.8 levels, with average 12 classes with roughly 40 students and each level takes about 8 subjects, with 4 major exams each year. 12papers x 8 subs x 40stdts x 12 classes x 4.8 lvls x 168 schs x 4 exams = 148,635,648 pieces of A4 size papers. There are also 5 integrated programme schools funded by government, 7 independent, 21 junior colleges, 1 central institute, and not to forget about the polytechnics and ITE, nurseries and kindergardens! omg omg. AND not to forget about the answer schemes that teachers will be using. So... can you imagine how many pieces of papers we are wasting...? It's only Singapore, a small red dot hiding somewhere on the whole world map. |
