Weeks ago, Mel and me went to several hotels to apply for jobs, but none were successful. Only a week before school reopen, Raffles Hotel called me and told me to start work at Tiffin Room, one of the most important restaurants at Raffles Hotel. I was told to work as a hostess. Okay, let me explain, hostess job is decent. Not some beer ladies or modern geishas. Certainly NOT!

What I'm doing is basically standing at podium for almost 8 hours, taking reservations from calls and key them into the system. For breakfast, we have to usher the guests, taking note of their room numbers, names (if possible, so as to greet them by their names), their habits (preferred drinks/seats etc), social with them and talk la. Oh upon seated, we have to take their orders for drinks too! Wah lao. You tink kopi, milo so easy arh. They ordered weird kinds of beverages la!!! And some I dont even know one!! And can you imagine a table of 7 people drinking 2 drinks per person?! Yea, it's kinda a habit to drink 2 drinks la. And some got special request like, skimmed milk or less sugar or lemon slices by the side. KNS! The worst is... we have to use memory, purely just brains, not papers and pens.

Oh so that's the MAIN job la. After that got other things like paperwork, where you gotten reply emails, check the reservations have been keyed into the system already or not. And also things like writing daily event logs blah blahhhh.

Actually what I've mentioned are just mainly the idea of what a hostess is doing. But there are really other things whereby Pizzahut and NYDC hostesses dont do. Perhaps things like station plans, birthday plans/cards etc. Yea yea..

I love the job. It's so fun la! But sometimes you are faced with difficult people. I love the people working there also. Actually it's really fun, coz you're at the podium there, den when you're bored or when the manager's bored, we'll just bitch about guests and perhaps crapp la. Haha. MANAGER somemore. Wahahaha. Then yea, I learnt kinda a lot from the ppl working there. And I already starting to miss working there. Haha!

Oh one thing that surprised me at Raffles, is that people there are all so friendly! They just talk to you, make friends with you, and smile everytime you walk pass them. It that very family warmth feeling yea. Haha. Yupp! The waiters there are fun also la, although I'm still very awkward with them just alone when my other hostesses are not around. Haha!

So school's tomorrow... and I dont have to wake up at 5am anymore to catch the one of the earliest train to work, kind of not used to it. Haha. Yea... humans do have feelings.
